The types of PHI/PII found and modified by Philter is controlled by a file called a filter profile. Philter can apply one or many filter profiles at any given time. The filter profiles, by default, are stored on the local file system alongside Philter. However, this does not lend itself to scaling well when in a distributed environment. The Philter Profile Registry seeks to resolve these scaling and high-availability issues by providing an HTTP-based service to store filter profiles and make them available to Philter.
